| After the first tour
around the World I still had itchy feet and wasn't happy living in Switzerland. I thought
it would be great to go on another trip. This time without any time pressure, more money
and no exact travel plans. I wanted to be as independent as possible, so I decided
to go by bicycle. I bought a new Mountain
Bike and all the necessary gear and flew to Anchorage, Alaska in July 1990. It was
just wonderful cycling through wild countryside up north. Lots of animals too. I met many
nice people and only left when the weather got cold. Later on I cycled from New Orleans to
SF. By now I was addicted to my Bicycle Matilda. |
I went to Tahiti, The Cook
Islands and Fidji. After all that sun and beach fun I rode around New Zealand. I was fit
and healthy, had good company, food and did wild Bungy Jumping and Parachuting. Australia
was next. The long distances and the isolation was a real challenge but I enjoyed every
day and never got sick of travelling. I felt so free camping under the stars at night and
many encounters with friendly locals kept me going. One evening at a campground I met Elke
and she must have been inspired by my stories then she decided to join me on my trip. |
We started our journey in Bali on
Feb.14 1992. We cycled through Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand. It was a journey
of discovery learning and admiration for Asian culture. Very much in Love we tackled China
before taking the train to Moscow. We then traveled all across Europe to Switzerland, were
we still live. It was the time of my life. I cycled 45'000km in 2 1/2 years through 32
countries. The most amazing memories are about the countless beautiful people I was able
to meet. The world is a great place and there are many good people around. I married Elke
on 25. June 93. I still ride Matilda to work every day as we have no car. |
